Clinical Pilates @ Monteith Physio

Sydney CBD

All equipment based pilates sessions at Monteith Physio, Sydney, are run by physiotherapists and incorporate the use of the reformerThis means that you will have an injury minded professional guiding your pilates experience. Our pilates programmes differ from our competitors in that we have developed a specific pilates model to help ensure that each of our patients receives a programme best suited to their prior exercise, injury and experience levels.

Unlike other pilates groups, that will often stick you at the back of a class (and you play ‘follow the leader’ – regardless of your skill level), we at Monteith Physio will work our way through three stages of pilates core competence. We will kick things off with a 45 minute 1 on 1 initial assessment, and move to some 1 on 1 reformer work in the beginner phase, before entering the small, more advanced classes (no more than 4 people).

Monteith Physio’s three stage pilates model allows tailored pilates exercise prescription, consistent practice with defined goals, and structured progression based on regular assessment. As physiotherapists, we have a duty to offer the best professional care possible, and by using our approach, we believe that this is the best way for you to practice and progress with your pilates core skills.

No matter your pilates experience – whether you’re a complete novice who doesn’t know a pilates reformer from an office chair, OR, you’re a trained gymnast looking for that extra 5% in your performance, you’ll fit right in at Clinical Pilates with Monteith Physio..

Why should I do Pilates with a Physiotherapist?

At Monteith Physio, Sydney CBD, all of our physiotherapists are trained in the Pilates method. Within that very experienced group, we do have 1 young lady who is extremely passionate about pilates. Monique is a fantastic physio, a qualified pilates instructor and a former international gymnast. So, she is the perfect person to up skill your pilates work. For many years, a physiotherapist will study muscle, bone, and joint anatomy and physiology. Therefore, we have the expertise required to effectively and accurately prescribe pilates exercises for all types of people and all types of bodies: those suffering with injury and pain, and those who simply would like to begin working on a stronger core.

Pilates, under the watchful eye of a physiotherapist at Monteith Physio, Sydney, also enhances:

  • Core stability
  • Postural control
  • Body awareness, &
  • Flexibility

Improvements and gains in the above areas will help to:

  • Reduce the presence, and/or risk of pain
  • Reduce the risk of re-injury, &
  • Strengthen and tone all muscle groups (with particular attention to core abdominals, gluteals, hamstrings, deep neck flexors, & lower traps).

Pilates with a physiotherapist improves core stability, which significantly aides in the management and prevention of low back pain and neck pain. Why? Because if we are able to improve your core control, we will enable you to sit taller in your chair for longer. Why? Because you now have the strength to hold yourself in position, and not slouch or rest on passive structures. Pilates, under the guidance of a physio, will also ensure that you are keeping a very conscious eye on potential injury and pain. Prevention is always better than cure!

Pilates will benefit:

  • People with neck or back pain, acute or longstanding
  • Patients suffering with hip, groin, & shoulder injuries
  • Patients recovering from surgery
  • Pre- and post-natal women
  • Athletes looking for that extra edge, &
  • People without pain and injury who simply want to be stronger!

Why choose to undertake pilates classes with a physiotherapist at Monteith Physio, Sydney?

Class Packs are available now

During your initial assessment we make sure to get an accurate account of your medical history. We will also determine what your goals are and how your body performs in a variety of movement tests. This forms the foundation upon which exercise is prescribed, and gives us valid measures to continually reassess as you continue to grow and build with your clinical pilates.

Regardless of whether you are recovering from surgery, or simply trying to build better stability to improve your running/chosen exercise, your exercise programme is tailored, graduated and reassessed to ensure you reach your goals. Every patient is different, so everyone benefits from a detailed assessment and the prescription of an individualised exercise programme.

We offer a choice of private sessions (1 on 1) and small group classes (a maximum of 4 participants – 1 on 4), conveniently located in northern hub of Sydney CBD, overlooking Barangaroo, in a room filled with character, charm and natural light. Clinical Pilates under the tuition of a physiotherapist entitles you to a rebate from your private health insurer (we follow a specific set of guidelines that allows this to be a possibility for all of our patients). You can benefit from the immediate private health insurance rebate, using our HICAPS machine, if you have the appropriate level of cover.

Our Pilates classes will always remain small (up to 4 people) to offer a personalised service and tailored programme to meet your needs. Pilates with a physiotherapist at Monteith Physio offers the best of both worlds. You will be under the tutelage of a trained professional, one with a specific eye locked onto injury prevention. One who will provide you with the safest and most efficient way to build your strength and meet your goals. One who also trains and exercises personally, and one who is a qualified pilates instructor. It is the perfect combination for the safe building of your new core.

At Monteith Physio, our main goal with clinical pilates is to:

  • Educate you on ‘core’ muscles
    • Do you know what your ‘core’ is?
    • Do you know where it is?
    • Do you know how to turn it on?
    • When should you turn it on?
  • Teach you how to activate these muscles
  • Help you build these muscles, & to
  • Assist you in continued training of these muscles.

Once we have achieved this, and we have passed on all of our knowledge, we do have the option for you to continue your pilates practice with us at Monteith Physio. There are great discounts and packages available for those who purchase blocks of 8 and 16 clinical pilates classes.
